Health, Fitness & Inflammation

Have you ever found it hard to make healthier food choices?

I was born and raised in the South, the home of comfort foods. Lets just say, eating healthy wasn’t something I naturally did.

I grew up knowing it was important and even chose to go into the health and fitness business. Still, it took me years to get serious about learning more about the “health” side of things.

Working out, I could do all day! When I was younger, I could eat whatever I wanted and as long as I kept up my fitness routine, I still looked great!

Then I had three kids and got older!

Now, I am very aware of how powerful foods are and I am on a mission to learn more.

Many of you have told me you want to learn more too, so let’s do it!

The Shift

Have you ever been laser focused on your health and fitness? In that season you feel incredible and you are pretty sure you have turned a corner and you will never fall off the wagon again.

Then, the season changes.

I think we all can all agree, that life has a way of shifting our focus at times.

Maybe it’s a sickness, a tough pregnancy or major change in your life. Either way, I know how it feels to find yourself struggling to fit it all in. Before you know, you are frustrated because you’ve put on weight and you feel like crap.

Here’s the deal…only you can make the decision when and how you will make the shift back to healthy. This is for you and I’ve found, if you are pressured into something without truly observing what you can and will be committed to doing in the season you are in…then it will be short lived.

We all find ourselves in uncharted territory right now! The Coronavirus has changed our lives and routines more than we could have imagined.

For those of us who are not sick with the virus but we are sick of eating the quarantine snacks and feeling like junk, let’s use some of this time shift the focus back to health. No time to food prep or workout is no longer a valid excuse. It never was but this is where I am starting!

Inflammation

Before we dig in, it’s important to know that Inflammation isn’t always a bad thing. I am not claiming it’s the answer to all of your prayers but it is important to pay attention to.

Inflammation is part of the bodies defense mechanism and plays a role in the healing process.

There are two types of inflammation.

Inflammatory Foods

In the last year or so, I started experiencing a lot of foot pain.

I went to the doctors and they sent me to physical therapy. I didn’t injure my foot and they didn’t think I had plantar fasciitis, so what could it be?

Lately, the pain has gotten worse, even when I do my stretches. If I am off of my feet, it is hard to walk when I stand back up.

Needless to say, it has been my motivation to take another look at inflammation, what it does and the foods that cause it.

Since I am visual, I’ve created a few list that we can save to our phones for a quick reference. Save them as a screensaver or list to use when you go shopping. Either way, you can’t go wrong by adding more anti-inflammatory foods into your diet.

I am also refocusing on my physical activity and will share more in future blog post but for today, I wanted to get this information out and let you know that I will be sharing recipes, tips and what I am doing both here and on my Instagram.

I hope this will help us both!
